The first years are reflected in his Christian heritage. Quickly resorted to life in prayer, and dedicated them read the Holy Fathers. During the war, despite the dictatorial regime in Romania, life in prison was not so strict and some basic human rights have been observed: the prisoners could go to prison church, confess, receive Holy Communion and to meet each other and read books of their choice. So many Valery read: Holy Bible, the first four volumes of Dobrotoljubieto (who just were translated from another holy figure of the Church, Father Demetrius Staniloe and that too in a few years will end in communist prisons) and other Holy Fathers.
During the war many priests and monks were arrested for various political reasons (and more later in the communist regime) and inmates who want to live a godly life had a lot of people who could turn to for spiritual guidance. His initial years were eight years when he taught and became stronger in faith (this was necessary for what imminent). When we changed the political regime in Romania, dramatically changed the conditions in the prison; all previous freedoms were abolished and prisoners were persecuted because of their faith (also for their participation in the "Brotherhood of the Cross"). This reminds us of the life of St. Martin in Turkish, but this was only his generous act. A priest from Paris (Basil Boldeanu) years later recalled that when he was moved to Ajud only shirt and pants, almost frozen, was rescued by his youngest brother in suffering, who gave her a warm coat.

There are many things to say about this terrible phenomenon and prominent Christian resistance that was nevertheless provide here.
Valery was held in Pitesti just short because of all the torture, the terrible cold and hunger, became ill with tuberculosis (highly contagious disease) and was sent to Targu fringes, a prison hospital for tuberculosis. He considered blast room this for God's mercy that he saved the most odious cruelties which were conceived by the human mind and that occurred in Pitesti blast room soon after his departure.
